This is a gallery dedicated to the temporary grasslands of Singapore. I call them temporary because these grasslands do not occur naturally but are man-made. In Singapore where land is scarce, reclaiming land from sea is a common practice. These reclaimed land sites are reclaimed and then left for a couple of years to stabilize and then prepared for development. Sites are found at areas such as Punggol, Changi (see gallery on Tanah Merah), Marina East and Simpang. The site such as Marina East are now being developed into a golf course. These sites show the resilience of nature as grass grows, marshes are formed and birdlife increases. To me, it also shows that with just a little help, we can actually do a lot to create beautiful nature places in Singapore.
